The city has a population of around 760,000 and the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos metropolitian area has a population of over 1.7 million people.
Austin averages 300 days of sunshine each year and 34 inches of rainfall and it rarely snows in Austin. It is also escapes a lot of the hurricanes
that hit the Houston and Gulf Coast area, with most being downgraded to tropical storms when they reach the Austin area.
Austin has Silicon Hills where companies previously based in Silicon Valley have migrated to Austin to lower their costs and Texas is far more
business friendly. Dell Computer Corporation is based in Round Rock and IBM, Samsung, Freescale and AMD have major operations in Austin.
